As the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba, the newest sovereign nation in the world, sets on getting Nigeria’s encroachment off their territory, there have been reported cases of non- Yorubas claiming to be Yorubas.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE YORUBA IS A SOVEREIGN NATION FROM FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 2024. NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT ENCROACHMENT, AGGRESSION, AND TERRORISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ON OUR SOVEREIGN ANCESTRAL LAND. Share on X

In South Africa, a report reaching us says that “Igbos are now renewing their passports as Yorubas because the South African police and people finds it difficult to differentiate between the two tribes.

And for what the Indigenous Yoruba People stands for everywhere they go across the world – generally law abiding and do not involve in drugs trafficking, the Yoruba in South Africa alerts other Yorubas and the entire world: Soon, “you will be hearing that Yorubas are selling drugs in S.A.” This is to call attention of the world that it is not the Yoruba, but the Igbos impersonating us.”

This is therefore to get the general public, and especially Indigenous Yoruba People, to be more circumspect in identifying non-Yorubas who may claim Yoruba indigeneship just to evade suspicion for their criminal undercover activities and also be vigilant as this may not only be limited to South Africa but other places in the world. It goes, further, without saying, that, as the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba continues in its nation-building, all true Indigenous Yoruba People must be on the lookout for non-Yorubas in Yorubaland who may fraudulently wish to obtain Yoruba identity just to have access to rights only available to Indigenous Yoruba People.

An example of a non-Yoruba hiding under Yoruba name to perpetrate evil is the case of a man reported on X handle, @renoomokri, who, though says he is from Abia State and with an obvious Igbo accent too, but gave his name as “Akin Ayotunde” after being arrested for armed robbery and murder.
